But where to start?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this article, I\u2019ll introduce you to the 15 most popular Stable Diffusion models\u2014most of them ones that were created by other users like you. But, if you don\u2019t, I have <a href=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/what-is-a-stable-diffusion-model-and-which-should-i-use\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"What is a Stable Diffusion Model and Which Should I Use?\">a guide<\/a> explaining exactly that. Feel free to read that first if you\u2019re not sure what checkpoints and models are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, I recommend that <strong>you always download the SafeTensors version<\/strong> of a model for safety reasons. For more information about that, read my article about <a href=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/is-it-safe-to-download-stable-diffusion-checkpoint-models-from-the-internet\/\">Python model safety<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, keep in mind that <strong>models are large files: usually 2-8 gigabytes in size.<\/strong> So downloading a lot of them can quickly fill up an entire hard drive.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"disclaimer-nsfw-models-excluded\">Disclaimer: NSFW Models Excluded<\/h1>\n\n\n<p>If you take into account the number of downloads and average ratings, there are several NSFW models within the Top 10 for Stable Diffusion. Some of them can be used for SFW or non-nude generations; but a few of them are so specifically designed for adult content that they are not really worth using for anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For that reason, I did not include most of them in this list. I want this site to remain safe for anyone to browse. So just be aware that this list will not show you any models made specifically for adult content generation. Some of them may be capable of such, but are still useful for other art styles and mediums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that being said, let\u2019s move on\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-are-the-most-popular-models\">What are the Most Popular Models?<\/h1>\n\n\n<p>This list includes the custom models found on multiple online repositories that consistently have the highest ratings and most downloads. Obviously, it does not include the base versions of Stable Diffusion such as V1.4, V1.5, V2.0, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The top 10 custom models for Stable Diffusion <\/strong><strong>are<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>OpenJourney<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Waifu Diffusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anything V3.0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DreamShaper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nitro Diffusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Portrait Plus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dreamlike Photoreal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dreamlike Diffusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>HassanBlend<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deliberate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Realistic Vision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protogen (Photorealism)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Protogen (Anime)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analog Diffusion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redshift Diffusion<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-openjourney\">1. This model was trained on images generated by MidJourney. It\u2019s an attempt to open-source MidJourney\u2019s AI art style for home users. As you can imagine&#8230;it\u2019s the most popular custom model on Huggingface, with almost a half million downloads and counting.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-waifu-diffusion\">2. Waifu Diffusion<\/h1>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/hakurei\/waifu-diffusion-v1-3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Waifu Diffusion<\/a> is a specialty model aimed at producing anime art. For those who don\u2019t know, waifu is an anime term for a fictional woman that you find attractive. This model has the single-minded goal of creating anime and manga via prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The creator of this model has an official release page <a href=\"https:\/\/gist.github.com\/harubaru\/f727cedacae336d1f7877c4bbe2196e1\">available here<\/a> with more detail on the model\u2019s features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>One thing to note about Waifu Diffusion: the official version does not have a SafeTensors format currently.<\/strong> I have tried two unofficial safetensors version that would not load and caused a mess of errors in my web UI. Also, according to the notes on V1.4 a safetensors conversion was done, but it had errors and was taken back down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are willing to use a Pickle Tensor models on your computer, then feel free to test out V1.3 or V1.4 but be sure to run scans on the CKPT files first (again, check my <a href=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/is-it-safe-to-download-stable-diffusion-checkpoint-models-from-the-internet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Pickle file safety guide<\/a>). I personally won\u2019t download CKPT files, so I have not tested Waifu Diffusion out myself.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-anything-v30\">3. Anything V3.0<\/h1>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01438-71473273-AnythingV3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-875\" style=\"border-radius:25px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01438-71473273-AnythingV3.png 768w, https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01438-71473273-AnythingV3-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Anime is a big deal for AI art enthusiasts! Our third entry to this list is another model aimed at making highly-detailed anime and manga. But this model has a bit of controversy surrounding it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/Linaqruf\/anything-v3.0\/tree\/main\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Anything V3<\/a> is one of the most downloaded models on Stability AI\u2019s repository site, Huggingface. However, the original uploader of the model has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/linaqruf_\/status\/1616823880735416321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">somewhat disavowed<\/a> it due to the file having no discernible source author.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, V4 and V4.5 do exist&#8230;but they were created from unspecified blends by another user. As a result, they don\u2019t give results like V3 does. They are not bad models, some people just feel that naming them like new versions of Anything V3 is disingenuous. As a result, these versions are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/StableDiffusion\/comments\/10kr1m1\/current_state_of_anythingv3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">also disavowed <\/a>by portions of the Stable Diffusion community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At any rate, V3 is still considered a groundbreaking and useful anime generation tool.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-dreamshaper\">4. DreamShaper<\/h1>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01554-208822689-Dreamshaper.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-876\" style=\"border-radius:25px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01554-208822689-Dreamshaper.png 768w, https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01554-208822689-Dreamshaper-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/civitai.com\/models\/4384\/dreamshaper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">DreamShaper<\/a> is a model designed to produce painting-style portraits. However, it\u2019s also capable of making anime art and landscape paintings. The creator does not recommend using \u201cRestore Faces\u201d with this model, as it causes the painting style of images to diminish. I&#8217;ve found this to be accurate in my own renders as well. If you don&#8217;t add any artist names into your prompt, the default styles tends towards a vibrant and modern digital painting look.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-nitro-diffusion\">5. Nitro Diffusion<\/h1>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/nitrosocke\/Nitro-Diffusion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Nitro Diffusion<\/a> is an ambitious and successful project. It\u2019s also the first multi-style model. Nitro Diffusion was trained to generate 3 different art styles, but each style was kept separate so you can invoke any one of them alone without muddling the results. The 3 art styles it can emulate are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Modern Disney style \u2013 this is a digital cartoon style based on the newest Disney and Pixar animations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Archer style \u2013 based on the cartoon series named <em>Archer<\/em>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arcane style \u2013 based on the animated action adventure series by Netflix titled <em>Arcane<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, Nitro Diffusion does not currently have a SafeTensors format available for download. But I\u2019ve submitted a <a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/nitrosocke\/Nitro-Diffusion\/discussions\/14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">conversion request<\/a> on Huggingface and will update this page if\/when the conversion is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-portrait-plus\">6. Portrait Plus<\/h1>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"896\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01439-1934008157-Portrait-Plus-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-877\" style=\"border-radius:25px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01439-1934008157-Portrait-Plus-1.png 896w, https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01439-1934008157-Portrait-Plus-1-300x171.png 300w, https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01439-1934008157-Portrait-Plus-1-768x439.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 896px) 100vw, 896px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/wavymulder\/portraitplus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Portrait Plus<\/a> is customized to do one thing and do it well: portraits. But more specifically&#8230;portraits with consistently realistic eyes. It was made by the same person behind Analog Diffusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, he recommends using a square aspect ratio for generations. For the example image you see, I started with a square output and then used outpainting to make the total image wider.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"7-dreamlike-photoreal\">7. Dreamlike Photoreal<\/h1>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full has-custom-border\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01436-3448197362-Dreamlike-Photoreal.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-883\" style=\"border-radius:25px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01436-3448197362-Dreamlike-Photoreal.png 768w, https:\/\/promptphantom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/01436-3448197362-Dreamlike-Photoreal-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/civitai.com\/models\/3811\/dreamlike-photoreal-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Dreamlike Photoreal<\/a> is a result of training done by the company Dreamlike Tech Ltd. It\u2019s focus is on photorealism (as the name suggests). For best results, the creators suggests that you use vertical aspect ratios for portraits and horizontal aspect ratios for landscape art.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"8-dreamlike-diffusion\">8. But this one is designed for non-photo art styles, such as: digital paintings, concept art, anime, illustrations, etc. Again, the creators suggests that you use vertical aspect ratios for portraits and horizontal aspect ratios for landscape art.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"9-hassanblend\">9. The creator is up to the 6<sup>th<\/sup> interation (Hassanblend V1.5.1.2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you do not want nudes to be generated, I suggest that you add the words \u201cnude\u201d and \u201cnsfw\u201d to your negative prompt.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"10-deliberate\">10. The creator trained it on a set of analog photos (i.e. actual physical film camera photographs). This gives the model a very distinct and photo-realistic color grading and appearance. It also approves on Stable Diffusion\u2019s anatomical limitations when generating portraits.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"15-redshift-diffusion\">15. Redshift Diffusion<\/h1>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/nitrosocke\/redshift-diffusion\/tree\/main\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Redshift Diffusion<\/a> is another entry from the creator of Nitro Diffusion (username is Nitrosocke). This model was trained to simulate the 3D render art style of Redshift graphics rendering software. So this style is specifically skilled at making images that resemble video game renders and 3D modeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like Nitrosocke\u2019s other popular model, this one is not available yet in a SafeTensors format. But I have <a href=\"https:\/\/huggingface.co\/nitrosocke\/redshift-diffusion\/discussions\/23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">submitted a request<\/a> and will update this page if\/when the request is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"conclusion\">Conclusion<\/h1>\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a lot of models to play with.
